Blizzard through the eyes of an artist

Tweet this! While I think that everything over 1″ is called a storm in NYC, the latest blizzard dumped enough snow to be featured on the cover of The New Yorker. Considering that New Yorkers  skied on the streets of NYC, the cover illustration is pretty accurate.

Remotely controlled helicopter at Alpine Meadows

Tweet this! Now this might be an interesting solution for ski resorts to showcase their terrain: a remotely controlled helicopter with mounted HD camera. The one they use is a definitely expensive  model, I heard anywhere between $7K-$14K, so I don’t think you can get one at your local Radio Shack.  It might be a remotely controlled turbine heli; [...]

Snowboardnator

Tweet this!I can’t say much about these ski pants – they look all right from an aesthetic perspective. Ralph Lauren says that the pants are waterproof, breathable and featuring  Recco avalanche rescue system as well as many other bells and whistles. Tweet this!It hurts to pay up to $85 – on the East coast – for a weekend or holiday ski lift tickets. And even if you ski Monday through Friday, you can still pay through your nose as many ski resorts don’t offer significant price discounts. So what can you do? If you work in [...]

Happy New Year!

Tweet this! This is it: the year 2011 is 10 hours away. This is the year of the Rabbit and according to the Chinese zodiac, and some shady looking web sites, it should be slow and quiet. And while an unhurried pace might suit some folks, vertexpress.com will pick up speed. Here is what we have on our [...]

Facebooked: Spot the Gorilla

Tweet this!It is a cold fact: Facebook surpassed Google as the most visited website in the United States. You might not like certain things about FB – the “Like” button goes here -but you can find plenty of interesting information on Facebook’s walls. So I decided to poke around and scrape off some of that [...]

Beating lift lines at Mad River Glen

Tweet this!It looks like the Mad River Glen day today. But I thought this post will help balance things up (see a snowboarder’s day at MRG.) The full trip report is posted on http://timefortuckerman.com; so check it out, I am sure you will appreciate a skier’s perspective – and  a sense of humor – on the [...]
