When there is a foot+ of fresh snow, stay away from green trails. Stick to black diamonds or intermediate trails. Or if you do ski/ride green trails – have a shovel ready! (No joking around – we actually saw one snowboarder riding with a shovel!)
Just got back from Mount Snow in Vermont. At least 20″, and in all likelihood, even more than that. Similar conditions are reported from all ski resorts in VT.
It might rain in NYC right now, but things look quite bright in Vermont as of February 23. Just received some snow reports from Ski Vermont:

If you ever debated between leaving to Vermont very early in a morning and squeezing a half-day of skiing, or driving later in a day and spending the rest of it chilling in a hotel, here is an alternative – night skiing at Bolton Valley resort. They have 12 trails open up for night skiing from 4pm to 8pm, and I can say that we did enjoy it last week on our trip to northern VT. Just make sure to bring an extra fleece and be prepared for some lift delays. And yeah – a flashlight is a must if you want to explore all available trails at Bolton Valley resort.
And there is a good chance to see more as snow showers are expected through the day. However, high winds were also expected to impact lift operations at certain resorts. All in all, the winter weather has finally arrived, so do not miss your chance to hit the packed powder before it turns into the familiar frozen granular. Here are some brief updates:
Sugarbush opened up: Murphy’s Glade, Birdland, Lower Domino, and HG Traverse!
Killington plans to open more terrain, but do not expect beginner trails to be open.
Stratton is planning to pen the Gondola this Friday.
Stowe is expecting to have beginner terrain open tomorrow.
Yes, you heard it right – there is a chance for a foot or even two of fresh snow by the end of the week (at least around Jay Peak.) Check out Weather From The Hill and get your gear and snow tires ready.
It looks as if we might have some consequent snow showers in Vermont. There is 50% of snow on Wednesday and Thursday. Now let’s hope that 20%, 30%,40%, 50% snow chances will result in a foot of fresh snow by the weekend.
