It snowing in New England. Possible two feet of snow.

Yes, you heard it right – there is a chance for a foot or even two of fresh snow by the end of the week (at least around Jay Peak.)  Check out Weather From The Hill and get your gear and snow tires ready.

Things might get interesting next week – chance of snow showers

It looks as if we might have some consequent snow showers in Vermont. There is 50% of snow on Wednesday and Thursday. Now let’s hope that 20%, 30%,40%, 50% snow chances will result in a foot of fresh snow by the weekend.

The 2009/2010 season is about to start…weather permitting

Just ran a quick search and found out that most ski areas in Vermont are set to be open this weekend. However, they all use  rather cautionary language – so don’t get your hopes too high and check with a snow report. It looks that  warmer temperatures and possible rain might ruin the opening weekend. Opening days are postponed.

Unfortunately, most – if not all – Vermont ski resorts postponed an opening day. Unusually warm temperatures are to be blamed. Hopefully, some resorts will open up during the first week of December – some forecast even called  for a foot of powder. Meanwhile, do you snow dances, get your gear ready and let”s hope [...]

Northern Vermont got a couple inches of snow!

There was not even a hint – other than the weather forecast which is often off the  mark – that we might get some snow on Tuesday morning.  But here it is – northern Vermont blanketed in fresh snow. An awesome picture was posted by Smugglers Notch on twitpic.com. I hope that we will see [...]

Fall foliage around Mount Snow.

Just got back from  southern Vermont. Foliage is still there albeit it slowly fading away. Many resorts have huge discounts on lodging, free scenic rides and pre-season sales – it is a good chance to pick up new or used gear at a great price. 1) You can view our  Mount Snow photostream on Flickr [...]

Earlier in the morning, we received a comment from a reader who pointed out that Magic Mountain resort will only be open on weekends, holidays and after major snowstorms in the 2009/2010 season. That got me thinking – if they change hours of operation, why not change an image. I often hear comments such as: [...]

The 2009/2010 East coast ski rankings

I have good news! The 2009/2010 ski rankings have been released. Ski Magazine and its sister publication, Skiing Magazine, published readers’ perspectives on the best ski resorts in North America. I will not go over the Western ski resorts but, instead, will offer my humble opinion on the Eastern resorts’ rankings: they are very entertaining [...]

Sugarbush introduces a snowcat

It is good to be an innovator, or at least someone who introduces or implements an idea new to a particular place. In terms of skiing business we witnessed Okemo Mountain resort installing loading and, most importantly, unloading carpet to make those lift rides a bit faster and safer for skiers and riders. It is [...]

2008/2009 Ski Resort Rankings Released

And a reason for a such bold statement is simple. First of all, almost all types of rankings are inherently controversial and should be taken with a grain of salt; and the same principle can be applied to the ski resort rankings. Just the other day I viewed rankings published by Skiing Magazine where Jay [...]
