Spring skiing thoughts
This ski season is almost over. We can argue that late snow showers might hit us with another snow storm, however, let’s assume the worst-case scenario – 50+F, sunny days, and summer inventory in your local sporting goods shop. <&^*%> happens… But before you pack you winter gear, consider spring skiing and understand that no sunshine will substitute the real thing.
In Vermont, spring skiing is good if you can wake early enough to catch the first lift. By noon things get nasty – that is slushy, and basically quite “unski-able.” If it is 45+ outside, you should probably stick with black diamonds or some other steep ski trails. You can also practice moguls and or parks because falling tends to be less painful on soft snow.
As a bonus, you can probably sneak in without a lift ticket as things are pretty chaotic around this time of the year. Last season, we enjoyed free spring skiing at Stratton resort – nobody really cared to scan our x2 cards. (Hint: US Open made it even easier to make a couple of free ski runs.)
All in all, getting stuck in the middle of a trail is not fun, and so you can expect to see a lot of folks stuck in a bar instead. And it is not a bad idea…Here is to the next ski season!

Spring skiing at Okemo Mountain. Still plenty of snow.
