What La Nina?
I might have put way too much trust into the early weather forecasts; Or maybe, I am way too impatient with La Nina. But I have to say that this December will not be a memorable month for skiers and riders in the United States. In other words, we haven;t seen much snow for the most part of December. Seriously, what happened this year? It is almost 60F in NYC, and it rains in Vermont. All I can do is to do my snow dances and hope that “the Nina” will show up later this year.
Not too bad: 92% of terrain is open. This year….
Oh well, just 25% of terrain is open. Let’s see what happened a year later…
Hmm, 114 trails…Not too bad! Fast forward to 2011…
Killington has 29 trails open; however, we still have 7 days to catch up. And a year later…
Not too bad: packed powder and 60_ trails at Smugglers’ Notch ski resort. This year…
Loose granular with 9 trails. Come on La Nina! Make this ski season memorable…

The winter outlook for 2011-2012 is in and I am forecasting a longer winter than normal with slightly more than average snowfall. Even though we could see a few snow flurries in October, we will most likely see our first inch of snow on November 15. The Thanksgiving holidays will see some wintry weather with a significant snow that weekend.
